Rattan is an extremely strong material of which there are several hundred species, all are members of the genus clamu. Rattan grows as a long thin uniform stem up to 200m, depending on the species. Rattan is found in India, Southeast Asia, China and Indonesia. Rattan is similar to bamboo but is not hollow, with an very hard outer stem and softer inner. This continuously growing plant will not break or splinter and makes a great medium for furniture. Rattan furniture is as strong as steel and difficult to destroy and requires no maintenance.
